System Center Server Management Suites are the best way to acquire the full range of server management functionality on the Windows® operating system platform delivered by Microsoft System Center products. There are both Enterprise and Datacenter editions available to meet the diverse needs of customers with varying levels of infrastructure maturity. Microsoft System Center Server Management Suite Enterprise (SMSE) transitions to an offering best suited for physical and low-density virtualized servers that:

• Provides for the management of up to four guest operating system environments (OSEs).
• Reflects a 20 percent SMSE price decrease during the fiscal year 2009 (FY09) SMSE.
• Is priced just below the cost of two stand-alone products.
• Aligns to licensing for the Windows Server® Enterprise Edition operating system.

Microsoft System Center Server Management Suite Datacenter (SMSD) is a new offering best suited for high-density virtualized servers that is:

• Sold per processor with a minimum of two processors per server device.
• Provides for the management of unlimited OSEs.
• Results in no price change from FY09 SMSE for a two-processor server device, and a double price increase on a four-processor server.
• Aligns to licensing for Windows Server Datacenter.

Two important new server management capabilities will be available through purchasing Server Management Suite Enterprise (SMSE) and Server Management Suite Datacenter (SMSD) licenses. Service Manager’s Server Management License will be a new component of the SMSE & SMSD, and customers licensed for the SMSE or SMSD will receive the Service Manager Server ML as part of their active Software Assurance coverage. Opalis(http://www.opalis.com) was acquired by Microsoft in December 2009, and Opalis software will be granted to any new or existing SMSE or SMSD license with active Software Assurance coverage as of December 10th, 2009.
