Preventive Maintenance

As businesses come to increasingly depend on continuous access to their data (including systems formerly misunderstood as non-critical), ensuring that their data is available on demand is of paramount importance. To avoid this problem, businesses can deploy expensive high availability measures, but they're often not cost-effective for the file and print servers that actually hold the bulk of day-to-day operational data, nor are they cost effective for smaller SMB organizations.

No IT infrastructure, however large or small, is immune from the many disasters - that will inevitably stop the flow of data at one or more of your facilities. When that time comes, IT will be on the hook for dusting off the disaster recovery plan.

Will your disaster recovery plan work?

If your disaster recovery plan includes recovery solutions planned, prepared, and implemented by Broadview Networks, the answer will be a resounding "yes."

Broadview Networks will help you to design, plan, implement, test, and maintain a system that can be combined with your existing backup solution to create a comprehensive disaster recovery solution.

An effective disaster recovery solution requires a comprehensive data protection plan which includes tape backup, whole server recovery, failover and continuous data replication.

Broadview Networks offers cost effective disaster recovery solutions using software based on asynchronous real-time replication, providing continuous data protection by sending an up-to-the-minute copy of the data as it is being changed to a target DR server, as well as automatic failover to provide cost-effective business continuity for Active Directory, Windows Servers, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, VMWare, virtual systems, file servers, and many other applications. Features such as built-in bandwidth control allow data to be replicated to a remote source, far from harms way of a disaster such as floods, fires, tornadoes, and theft. That same bandwidth control allows data to be restored within minutes.

Our approach provides sound protection and a better disaster recovery solution for a fraction of the cost of hardware replication or clustering technologies.

Microsoft Forefront Security

Today's threats are more advanced and more frequent, and the attack trends are becoming more application-oriented in focus than in the recent past. Additionally, today's security solutions are often criticized for a lack of interoperability and poor integration within common IT environments. Their multiple management consoles, product complexity, and segmented event reporting and analysis are often cited as key issues with existing security products. Microsoft's entrance to the security solutions space in early 2007 addresses these common concerns and critiques of security products, with a solution suite to provide protection where your environment needs it.

Introducing Forefront Security Suite

Microsoft Forefront Client Security Suite includes antivirus and antispyware protection for client PC's operating systems, server operating systems, two server products (Exchange and SharePoint), and there is an edge network product pairing providing firewall and endpoint security protection. The key element in the Suite environment is the simplified management and control of the solutions in a central console.

What is Forefront Security Suite?

Intelligent Application Gateway 2007

Forefront Client Security

Microsoft Forefront Client Security (FCS) is an installed software agent deployed to desktops, laptops and business PC systems - and in one product provides realtime and scheduled scan protection for both antivirus and anti-spyware threats.

FCS uses a single management console for generating reports and alerts, as well as for building policies to manage client security according to individual users or groups. For example, users can build a policy that configures the anti-spyware, anti-virus and state assessment for one client or for groups of clients. These settings include alert levels to specify the type and volume of alerts and events generated by different groups of protected machines.

FCS integrates well with Microsoft environments. For example, rollouts of FCS can be achieved with Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), and the console integrates with Active Directory. The net benefit to IT resources is a reduced learning curve, improved deployment success, and simplified management.

Forefront Security for Exchange Server

Forefront Security for Exchange Server is installed on Exchange 2007 servers where it protects the server product from virus, worm and spam threats. Forefront integrates virus scanners from as many as five different providers, including AhnLab, Authentium, CA, Kaspersky Labs, Norman Data Defense, Microsoft, Sophos, and VirusBuster. Up to five of these engines may be used at any time and in different configurations across the server system. Microsoft provides one-stop, automated updates for all of the providers, and once any vendor's product is updated, Microsoft tests it, confirms the product validity, and then posts it for automatic update by the Forefront Security product.

The product can be configured in many different ways to the benefit of environments that require a layered security solution. For example, if a scan fails at the Exchange Edge server, another scanner deployed at the Exchange Hub can catch it. Forefront also integrates with Exchange's inherent anti-spam tools, such as Microsoft IP Reputation Service, Intelligent Message Filtering for content filtering and Exchange's anti-spam signature files.

Forefront Security for SharePoint Server

As implied by the product name, Forefront Security for SharePoint is designed to protect SharePoint Server and Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) 3.0 environments from documents containing malicious code, undesirable content or even confidential information disclosure. The very same scanning engines are available as noted in the previous section and are identical to the Exchange Server Forefront product.

As documents are uploaded or accessed from a SharePoint library, Forefront Security for SharePoint will automatically scan the file. Forefront for SharePoint can scan SharePoint SQL databases and document libraries, for example, in a manual scan of the SharePoint environment. The product is also capable of protecting based on content by scanning for administrator-defined keywords and phrases within most Microsoft Office document file formats.

Intelligent Application Gateway 2007

When it comes to edge protection, the Forefront suite includes both ISA 2006 and the Intelligent Application Gateway (IAG) 2007 products. Until the launch of the Forefront products, ISA has been a freestanding product, but it is now encompassed under the Forefront family. Individually and collectively, these two products provide enhanced network edge protection from Internet based risks.

IAG 2007 is an appliance device that originated with Whale Communications - a recent Microsoft acquisition. The product provides SSL VPN based application access and protection with endpoint security management. It enables access control, authorization, and content inspection for a range of applications. Mobile and remote users can gain secure access from a wide array of devices and locations, while providing IT resources the opportunity to enforce compliance through the use of policies based on device, user, application, or other business criteria.

IAG is ideal for environments where there is concern for controlling access to corporate applications or data from remote devices or locations.
